The Layout
Weybridge is an N gauge layout based on the real railway station and junction at Weybridge in Surrey. Rather than reproducing the location exactly, the layout adapts its principal railway features to create a busy main-line setting with plenty of scope for varied operation.
Four tracks represent the South West Main Line through the station, allowing a mixture of stopping and through trains to operate independently. Alongside the main line, a separate branch represents the route towards Chertsey, which diverges from the railway at Weybridge.
Prototype
The real Weybridge station lies on the South West Main Line south-west of London and has served the town since 1838. The branch towards Chertsey opened in 1848, while expansion of the main line eventually brought four running lines through the area.
The combination of a busy main line and diverging branch provides the basis for the model, condensed and adapted to suit an N gauge layout.
